Endurance 2005: 25 & 50 miles; 1st: Alkama; Durana, Penelope, Polotlize

Apparently there are six Akhal-Tekes that have competed in AERC rides. None have competed in FEI events.

The ones I’ve heard of:

Jas Shearer-McMahon of Magic Valley Akhal-Tekes used Astrakhan (Melechan x Fargona) on the XP-2001. Astrakhan has 455 miles for. In 2005 they completed a 30 mile limited distance ride. In 2005 Kathy Connell completed 2 30-mile LD rides with Astrakhan and attempted a 50 but were pulled for lameness.

Kathy Leddy of Cascade Gold Akhal-Tekes has ridden two slow 30 mile limited distance rides on Astrachan in 2005 (from the AERC database).

Bettina Koehn has ridden Annushka for 270 limited distance miles so far. Of note is that Bettina has accumulated a total of 6,885 AERC miles since 1992.

River Ranch Montana (whose website is currently down) has Durkkhal (Melesur x Damdja), who was foaled at Stud de Shamborant. In 2005 Kelsey Swanson rode Durkkhal in the Mt. Caramel XP and placed everyday in the 50/55/50 mile rides. Then they got a completion in the Rollins Ridge 50, and then attempted the Tevis but were eliminated due to lameness. I haven’t seen them in any stats since then.

ATTA Enndurance Awards 2005:

• Monica Bennett and Inde—accomplishments in endurance (part-bred I believe)
• Brooke Koehn—Junior Endurance Award
• Bettina Koehn and Annushka—job well done in endurance
• Susie Morrill and MS Infinite Cosmos—accomplishments in endurance
• Cathy Leddy, Galen and Astrachan—accomplishments in endurance
• Liz Masters— accomplishments in Endurance
• Kelsey Swanson on Durkkhal—accomplishments in endurance

In conclusion there is not enough Akhal-Tekes competing in endurance in North America to determine any information relating between success and lineage or type.

—————————————————————————

Michèle van Kasteren of AKHAL-TEKE stud van Kasteren in Belgium has been competing in FEI endurance on Akhal-Tekes. She ranked N°249 on the international FEI endurance ranking last year. Her “Sugun (Sumbar x Ssora, El line) is the perfect combination of strong character and high performance. He competed himself in both eventing and endurance up to 120 km. He has a son that is vice champion in eventing and a CEI *** daughter.”

What is very interesting is that Michèle feels that what MAAK is saying is wrong, and that their grading is strictly the opposite to breed a performance endurance Teke. Since her performance is the top in endurance with Tekes I find that statement very interesting.

SegunSegun

I would also like pictures of Babakhan-93, Benladen-97, Arfur-96, Model, Zabeg, Micron and any other Akhal-Tekes that are performing well in endurance!
