Training begins! (and some pony fun)

I think I’ve lucked out with our trainer Drew. He is calm and thorough and isn’t rushing the training. His biggest problem seems to be that I have trained Darginka to come in to me and follow me and now Drew has to teach her to go out to lunge. She doesn’t get the circling idea yet. Drew thinks her kicking out is just a bit of frustration and she is not trying to hurt any one. (Yea – makes me feel a lot better!) I’ll keep the training updated and I put up some pictures below of the ponies playing at the barn.

    Hi Kerri-Jo,

Just wanted to send a quick note of congrats on the great site, love the pics on stallion lines! (I need to fix the head shot of Salam it looks grainy on both your site and mine.) On training Darginka – my 3 year old mares where not as outgoing as the stallions when they first arrived, but after a few months of slow work they are very trusting and will do anything for me. Don’t rush it and keep up the good work!

    Hi Kerri-Jo,
Darginka looks very good. I’m glad to hear she has more energy. I wondered how much of her low energy level was due to conservation of resources or innate disposition. I love her expressions – you can tell she listens to and loves her people!

I suppose it’s good to know that she doesn’t mean to hurt anyone when she kicks out! I hope that’s the answer. I wonder if she’s trying to hurt the dogs when she kicks at them. Too scary! Well, she kicked less and less as we worked with her here, so maybe it will eventually extinquish. Here’s hoping!

Kerri-Jo: What means impossible? Here Diva is very thin as she went with Akpai to a place where they were supposed to be on a 100 acre pasture but there was no grass and they were not fed enough. So I have taken Diva to a very lush pasture now and she has gained weight and looks great. Akpai is...
