Serdar appeared also the most hardy: even after 100-kilometer transition last day run he did not appear weary.

Other three horses though had the tired appearance:

Gunesh (Hindu Kush-Аза line El), black 8 yr old (160 – 156 – 172 – 19,0) ridden by Geldy
Alchep (Анкар—Марал), red 6 yr old

These informations are very interesting !
But it is very difficult to make a connection between them.
The question is : how can we do horse selection for endurance races ?

Are all akhal teke sustainable for endurance ? Certainly not !

Selection in Russia is now based on shows and speed races. In Turkmenistan, selection is based only on speed races. In Kazakstan, the purpose was to make a real sport horse by increasing size and bones.
In this environment, it is very difficult to choose the good horse.

Certainly, some lines are more interesting than others : I think about Arab line, El line especially Sovkoz 2, Kaplan line, maybe Posman Line.

Conformation is also very important : not too long back, good loins, strong back, dry constitution and I think medium size because problems of too long and thin legs. And good gaiths.

According to me, a sprinter has not the same constitution as a marathon man ! We have to find the good conformation in the breed sustainable for endurance.

All I am trying to do is get as much data about what Tekes have done as possible. If anything this post just shows that there are a variety of types of Akhal-Tekes that do well with endurance. It seems that you can pick out most Tekes and they will do the distances asked of them.

Look to the direct parents and their athletic ability, even though their only results may be for sprinting, or even dressage, all we can do is pick the best athletes.

Then retraining their cardiovascular and muscular systems hopefully will bring out their athletic potential for endurance.

“Selection in Russia is now based on shows and speed races. In Turkmenistan, selection is based only on speed races. In Kazakstan, the purpose was to make a real sport horse by increasing size and bones”.
