1800 m in 2.08,2

What I find interesting is that the horses, which are now being selected for speed, are not as fast as some of the historical horses. And I would love to learn more about AJAX – as he won both 6,000 and 1,800 meter distances. Was he trained differently in 2005 and 2006? What other races has he been in?

References and photos are from MAAK, except Ajax, from the ShaEl Teke site.

Racing records with more information are also on two great sites: FARM ACHALTEKE TUKLEKY & BLOG SUR LE CHEVAL AKHAL TEKE

There are discrepancies on the MAAK site about the names of the horses and races, so if I have them wrong please let me know!

    Nathalie:

I wonder if selection of speed is so important for breeders than before. I’ve seen an article by MAAK that explains the decrease of the number of akhal teke races since 1980.
I wonder also about the reliability of the record of Opal 1:57 !

Jenny: You, too?? We are practically treading water around here to stay afloat from all this rain! Luckily there is still some pasture out there that hasn’t “gone under!” Have you had a lot of wind there? We’ve been getting pummeled. I’ve been meaning to ask you. ....
