Their journey is the longest point-to-point ride ever. Along the way, they face intense physical hardships, including being attacked by hostile townspeople, having three of their horses die along the way and they don’t speak to each other for a year. This five year saga left them w/ THE Incredible Journey.
Directed by Tom Jennings. In the first six minutes of the movie we meet its star, Louis Bruhnke and his traveling partner, Vladimir, the cameraman and photographer.

Here is a list of new books from the Long Riders’ Guild Press including one from Günter Wamser, who is still on his journey from South America to Alaska, and has written a book about his adventures so far.
I also found an IMAX film about horses, “Ride Around the World”. I hope to catch this one too, it’s playing right now.
And “Serko; Russian Empire 1889. They risked their lives to meet the Tsar.”
Basically, this is a true story. An astonishing equestrian achievement by Serko (the horse) and Peshkov (the rider) taking place in the immense Russian landscape at the end of the 19th Century… The most extraordinary Long Ride of all time, without doubt: more than five thousand miles in less than two hundred days, without changing horses.
It is currently playing in France, hopefully we will get it with English subtitles.
And I have to put in a link about Laurence Bougault, as she has Akhal-Tekes!! I am very impressed with her exploits as well. I think I am going to have to brush up on my French now, as well as learn Russian!
Another long distance rider is Alexandra Tolstoy, who has gone on three long distance treks using Akhal-Tekes. I already wrote about her book here.
I love doing long distance riding on a bicycle, but I am always scared I would end up killing a horse on a long ride. However, there is a ride in 2010 through our Rocky Mountains that I am planning to do, the Great Divide Ride. It is now up to about 1850 to 1900 miles over 37 riding days. Want to join us?!!
