Laurence Bougault is planning her trek, the Amazone of Peace, from Ashgabat to Paris, starting in April of 2009. Her plan is to cover the 7,000 km in six months, traveling through Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece, Italy and through France by September.
You can buy her book, “Sous l’œil des chevaux d’Afrique“, where she chronicles her travels over 3,300 km around South-East Africa in 2001. She has also ridden in Mongolia in 1997, the Alps (Chamonix-Menton) in 1999, Turkmenistan in 2005, among other places.
Laurence’s great ambitions for her coming trip are to do it on the traditional horse of the area she begins her trek, the Turkoman horse. 2009 also commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Shamorant. Such a trip in 2009 would honour his great work and preservation of the Akhal-Teke, a noted strain of the Turkoman horse.
Through her love of the Turkoman horse, the Broceliande Akhal-Teke Stud was developed:
This adventure will be very different compare to the first one. The objective is to beat Pechkov’s record (8838 km in 193 days). To be successful, Laurence need to find sponsors, because she will need a 4×4 to carry the supplies.
If you want to join this incredible venture, please, contact us : bougault.laurence@tele2.fr
Check out L’Association en Broceliande as well as her Akhal-Teke Magazine, which is full of great information. (Note: Unfortunately for us English only speakers her web is mostly in French.)

Wish I’d studied harder in my French classes – would make reading and enjoying such sites that much easier! This sounds like such an awesome adventure!

As far as I am concerned Ghachaghchi; ??????? – provided my Russian spelling is correct, early 1950′s is the most impressive, Akhal-Teke stallion I have seen (Jet-Black) (russian post-cards), I was wondering if you know about him, his lineage and pedigree or not, cause, these cards have disappeared unfortunately, as having been part of dear Louise’s collection.
