Akpai has been leased to Katrin who is using her for endurance this year. Akpai turned out to be such a nice riding horse that her daughter rode her in her first 30 mile ride. Akpai is now down in Idaho with Katrin and set to do her first 50 miler this weekend.

Akpay sure seems to need some more food! Slim horses are fine but she looks thin.

the breed is lean and always looks lean, like a greyhound. However the ribs should be covered. Most of the photos we see are of the 2 year olds in race training. They do fill out more as they get older.

This mare was put into 50 mile races with little training and wasn’t fed enough. In these photos she is skinny and not fit lean. You could see it better if I shot her higher, as then you could see how far the hip bone and spine were sticking out. The mare got worse over the next month until she was rested and fed.

In the first images this horse looks terrible and neglected, not lean! A lean horse in fine shape looks different.
