Akpai & Isha

Isha, a spiritual teacher and endurance rider, has fallen for Akhal-Tekes! You can read Isha’s book, Why Walk When You Can Fly, as well as watch her movie. Isha also appeared here on CBC with our own Steven & Chris and she blogs on the Huffington Post.

With women like Isha and the Amazon [...]

Pio Olascoaga Amaya presenting Dutar!

These are photos from Guillermo Lockhart (Willy) of his stallion Dutar in the show in Uruaguay. The young guy riding him is Pio Olascoaga Amaya, one of the best endurance riders in the World. Pio postponed his Dubai trip to present Dutar, he will be working there for 7 months. Right now Dutar is going [...]

Amazon of Peace

The Amazon of Peace has now completed another great ride. This time Laurence Bougault rode a Turkoman mare from Iran (Almila) for their 7,000 km journey from Isfahan, Iran to Paris, France (through Iran, Turkey, Greece, Italy and France).
I have very crudely translated some of her blog posts, they are a definite must read. I [...]

countdown to the Amazon of Peace

Dear Akhal-Tekke Friends,
To paraphrase my friend Dr. Alf-Eckbert Füssel of SANCO, in Brussels, “We will either find a way, or make one” Hannibal (247 – 183 B.C.)…
In response to our questions regarding the EU import rules for the temporary import of our mare Almila to Europe, to achieve our aim, a new WDR for the [...]

Amazone of Peace

Laurence Bougault is planning her trek, the Amazone of Peace, from Ashgabat to Paris, starting in April of 2009. Her plan is to cover the 7,000 km in six months, traveling through Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece, Italy and through France by September.
You can buy her book, “Sous l’œil des chevaux d’Afrique“, where she chronicles her [...]

Akhal-Tekes & Endurance in Croatia

Not only is endurance alive and well in Croatia in it’s second year, but so are the Akhal-Tekes!!
Ana & her family have started a beautiful Akhal-Teke Stud (and they also have amazing Arabians from Borike)

Akhal-Teke conformation

It is so hard to learn about the Akhal-Tekes. Plus their history is entirely intermixed with politics.
My interest is in the “old style” Akhal-Tekes with the solid conformation for performing raids by the old Turkmen tribes.

“20,000 Miles on a Horse”

Here is a film I really want to see: Two men (a Russian and American) ride on horseback from from the Southern tip of Argentina (Tierra del Fuego), to the Northern edge of Alaska (the Bering Sea). The best part is that they filmed everything…

Equine Videos on the WWW

Videos from UTube and other web sources with cool horse content, including a Russian TV show about Akhal-Tekes, Mongolian horse racing, dressage, jumping, vaulting, and training…

Historical Records II

For my pedigree research I am trying to collate which Akhal-Tekes have done well with racing in the past.
Here is a list of some records compared to results from the Championship of Russia 2005:

the Great Divide Ride 2010

This amazing ride is being put on by Wayne Delbeke! We are in on it!! I will ride my Tekes and Michael and the kids will drive for me. Hopefully Emma will be able to do a bit of riding by then as well.

Akhal-Tekes as racing and endurance athletes

So out of all the sire pictures, Yulduz 12 really stood out for me. He sure looks fast and very sleek. That picture got me thinking about which Akhal-Tekes are currently doing well at both short racing and endurance.

These pictures are from a 2,700 km trek by horses put on by Alexandra Tolstoy…
