Opening Day at the Ahal Velayat Hippodrome

We were lucky to be invited to the opening day races of the Ahal Velayat Hippodrome. It was another cold and wet day but we had amazing seats inside the beautiful complex directly over the track. The building itself is beautiful and the design well thought out. I took some photos through the plexiglass but [...]

Hippodrome – backstretch

There wasn’t much going on at the track as it was the middle of the day. Again, as seems typical for the Turkmen people, there were lots of smiles and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves with the horses. Also, the horses were all very well behaved and calm. Most of the riders were exercise [...]

Ashgabat Hippodrome

We visited the racetrack in the afternoon. One of the stables presented some of their horses to us. It was not a planned visit so they just brought them out as they were. The ones shown have finished their racing career and are currently in training for jumping. This hippodrome is not just set up [...]

gallop!

Here are some shots of Darla galloping out the horses: Kamileshen is competitive and fast Akpai is elegant, smooth and under control and Darginka isn’t competitive with anyone except perhaps her riders (function($){$(document).ready(function(){$(“#px48 a”).lightBox({});});})(jQuery); We are going to have an Akhal-Teke race next year! It will be a combined race for all ages. Date, location [...]

Akhal-Teke Race in Pardubice

the upcoming 1,200m race in Pardubice is the first for purebred Akhal-Tekes being held outside Russia and Turkmenistan. Turkoman horse races are also popular in Iran, hopefully they will soon be held throughout many more regions. Meet the horses:

100 miles in under 6.5 hours!!

Omair Hussain Al Beloushi on 11-year-old Charlandre Al Sharif set a world record for a 160-km endurance race. And they did it in style with incredible recoveries. Talk about a training program!! Congratulations!

Off to the track on a nice Sunday afternoon…

Akhal-Teke videos IV

Here are some videos that I that I would love to know more about. They show lovely Akhal-Tekes and really show off their movements. Please let me know to whom credit them to as well as any information you have!

Akhal-Teke conformation
It is so hard to learn about the Akhal-Tekes. Plus their history is entirely intermixed with politics.
My interest is in the “old style” Akhal-Tekes with the solid conformation for performing raids by the old Turkmen tribes.
Akhal-Teke Racing 2007

Races I could find results of from 2006-2007. Of note to me is that Melebajdak is consistently doing well and that Ajax does well at both shorter and longer distances, Godzar is still running at 9 years old, and it also looks like Argamak is on a winning streak:

For my pedigree research I am trying to collate which Akhal-Tekes have done well with racing in the past.
Here is a list of some records compared to results from the Championship of Russia 2005:
