I was invited to visit Iran by the Turkmen Horse Breeding and Consulting Cooperative (THBCC). It’s founder, Dr. Abdoljalil Ghiadi, is the head of a group of eight breeders and researchers involved in Turkmen horse breeding, pedigree research and genotyping. They have worked as a cooperative since 1998, centred in Jergelan, Iran.

We were lucky to be invited to the opening day races of the Ahal Velayat Hippodrome. It was another cold and wet day but we had amazing seats inside the beautiful complex directly over the track. The building itself is beautiful and the design well thought out. I took some photos through the plexiglass but [...]

There wasn’t much going on at the track as it was the middle of the day. Again, as seems typical for the Turkmen people, there were lots of smiles and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves with the horses. Also, the horses were all very well behaved and calm. Most of the riders were exercise [...]
We visited the racetrack in the afternoon. One of the stables presented some of their horses to us. It was not a planned visit so they just brought them out as they were. The ones shown have finished their racing career and are currently in training for jumping. This hippodrome is not just set up [...]

Daper is a two year old grey colt by Pan and out of Dikarka bred by the Pontecorvos at Akhal Texas. He is breathtaking to watch. Although he is cautious as he hadn’t had any handling he is very curious and is mostly likely the type to closely bond with one person. He is offered [...]

On the North American Stallion directory there are references posted to both the sire line and the dam’s sire line. It is only used as a classification system. It would be more relevant to actually post the dam families, however, which dams are classified as the base of the family is difficult to discover. I [...]

A winter visit to Brent and Grace Seufert at BGD Ranch in Calgary, Alberta (At Boisin) to see the Akhal-Tekes and of course those cute Caspians!! ***** NOTE: this post is still in progress, I’ll update as I learn more !!!!!!***** Potential inbreeding problems with Akhal-Tekes was brought up on the Yahoo list and got me curious to find out more. As Akhal-Tekes are still on the rare side, especially outside of Russia and Turkmenistan, one thing to watch with breeding [...]

A positive story to bring in the New Year:
Saad is approved as a refiner for Danish Palomino Association and awarded with the title; Stallion of the Year 2007.
I am dismayed and upset by the reaction of the community to the images of Pan Tau posted previously. The images in no way reflect the character or the training of Pan Tau. (The photos on this header are from AkhalTeke.cc)
I am having a difficult time with this decision, but make me an offer on Salimrashid. I want to keep him but it is not practical.
He is an amazing typey and very tall colt, line Everdy Teleky. He will be both athletic and a showstopper!!
Habib is part of the famous Postman line which was revived by Gaigasiz. Here is some information about this preeminent line:
These amazing photos of Gajgysyz were taken by Natalia Kostikova (Russia)! Thanks!!
Here are some photos that Nadja took of Habib playing in the paddock.
June 6th is the new flight date.
As an update, everyone is doing very well and they should be on the plane from Amsterdam to LA on June 6th.
Here are some photos that Nadja took of Habib for me:
Here is a response by Leonid Babaev to Dr. Rjabova’s article about the new line of Sovhov-2, which appeared in the magazine Akhal-Teke Inform 2006.
We have listed our proposed breedings. Watch for some amazing foals coming for sale in 2008!!
Dr. Rjabova’s article appeared in the magazine Akhal-Teke Inform 2006.
2000 (Ashug x Olivia) line Kaplan, 160 cm, from Studfarm Veles
I think this guy will make a great Endurance horse!!
I think this guy is just so cool I had to make a post of all their great pictures of him!!
With such a beautiful mare as Pagoda I think these stallions would be more suitable…
Narrowing down the stallion choices to Mihman, Flamingo and Pegas…
We have chosen Metman from Freedom Run Farms as our stud for this year. We feel that Metman’s proven athleticism will produce the best sport foal from Darginka.
This directory was compiled voluntarily for the Teke community by Shirley Schulz with layout by Lisa Belhage.
Download a printable version of the entire directory from here and browse the stallions listed by sire lines.
Here is a list of the best stallion prospects and endurance horses I have found so far:
What do you think of these prospects, both as studs ans as endurance horses? Which ones would you choose for endurance racing? Which would you choose to breed to?
traditional sire lines: Ak Belek, Ak-Sakal, Arab, Dor Bairam, El, Everdy-Teleke, Fakir Pelvan, Gelishikli, Karlavach, Kir Sakar, Kaplan, Mele Kush, Peren, Posman, Sere, Skak, Toporbai
The quest is on to find a stud for Darginka. My top choices so far are Shayol, Salam and Metman…
I had to look up equine coat colour genetics to find out the chances of what colour mares would throw when matched to Habib, whom we think is a perlino but may be a cremello.
