Tikka (TB)

Tikka 2006 (Alfaari x Hollywoods Steal), 16.3hh Thoroughbred

Tikka

Big gentle bold mare, goes well on trails, through rivers, not spooky. Plain hunter movement, has been started over fences. Really more like a Sporthorse than Thoroughbred. She’s taken a few beginners out on trails and gone on a fox hunt already! Although she was slow on the racetrack at 5-6f I think she should have been a distance runner and she would have done better.

I am sending my Akhal-Teke mares for breeding and will be riding Tikka this year. I hope to do some jumping and get in good enough shape to ride her in the hunts in the fall. She is currently too much horse for me but she loves going under saddle and we will learn together.

Sire: Alfaari (c. by Danzig). 3 wins at 5 in NA, placed at 3 in England, $100,372 (USA), 2nd Vallejo Day H. (SOL, $6,000).

Excerpts from Dan Kenny in Bloodstock about her sire Alfaari (January 5, 2009):

Alfaari had been purchased privately from Darley after showing a trace of talent in England. Franks had done well with another Danzig stallion bought in England: Lost Soldier, sire of the celebrated sprint champion Lost In The Fog.

Alfaari was as good looking a horse as you will find, 16.1 hands, good bone, balance and a handsome face to befit a $500,000 yearling.

I knew Alfaari was capable of attending sub-:45 half-miles at the races and could run and win going long on dirt or turf. Enough said after Alfaari got a stakes-winning sprinter in his first crop named Rampaging Alf who was good enough to beat top sprinters at Hollywood and Santa Anita. Alfaari went on to achieve regional success and his daughters are already showing signs of ability.
