I was lucky enough to accompany Dr. Tatiana Ryabova (MAAK) and Julie Kayznecova (Akhal-Teke Inform) on their inspection visit to a Turkmen Studfarm where they breed and race Akhal-Teke horses. Petra Maresova of Achateke Tukleky also came. We went out to their farm east of Ashgabat and then went to see his stallions in training [...]
The Day of the Horse by Kerri-Jo Stewart
Along with the celebrations for the Day of the Horse and the scientific conference was held a competition for representational art portraying their Akhal-Teke horses. The prize for the best carpet was $3000, decoration $2,000, best image $1,500 and best sculpture was $1,000. My favourites were the natural dyed wool carpets made by Boozoganow Satgeldi [...]
There wasn’t much going on at the track as it was the middle of the day. Again, as seems typical for the Turkmen people, there were lots of smiles and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves with the horses. Also, the horses were all very well behaved and calm. Most of the riders were exercise [...]
These Akhal Texas fillies are all for sale, Hasil is of course just sold to Canadian Endurance. They are hesitating in selling Kenar as Katrin is currently pregnant with perhaps her last foal so if it is a colt they may sell him and keep Kenar. They are all nice of course but I really like [...]
Congratulations to Jim and Connie Rawski of Canadian Endurance near Toronto, Ontario for their purchase of Darius (Arim-Doba) and Hasil (Arim-Hrizantema). I’m excited that they have bought these fine yearlings as they are Canadian now! Although I think they would make superb eventing horses the Rawskis are very well known in Canada for their success [...]

The horses go from right off the truck into the ring to give a short performance for media. Sylvia Zerbini gently lets them express themselves and play while asking them for a performance. Someone asked if Sylvia was a “horse whisperer” and the response was that she doesn’t really like that term and is more [...]

Our hosts for the VNIIK grading in British Columbia were Lone Larch Akhal-Tekes. We had exceptional food and stayed in a beautiful spot. Kamileshen and Davinia got along really well in their paddock. Here are some photos the day after the grading around their place in Lumby, BC: (function($){$(document).ready(function(){$(“#px47 a”).lightBox({});});})(jQuery);
Here are Pagoda and Darginka this spring. They are finally shed out (although still a bit fuzzy in some of the photos) and the weather has been great recently. Pagoda has been great under saddle and really loves being ridden. That was their first time inside and indoor arena and going over poles. Pagoda is [...]

Akpai is for sale and these last couple weeks a couple people have looked at her. She has the easiest temperament of the mares for riding and is the smoothest with the nicest strides: Pagoda is the surprise for riding. I had given up on her as a sound riding horse after all her sickness [...]

A quick visit to Bold Vantage Farm in a gorgeous location across from where I used to live when I was in High River. I want to move back!! Plus Cindy, the manager, is a very knowledgeable horsewoman from whom I hope to learn lots! Bold Vantage is a large Akhal-Teke breeding farm now. They [...]
A winter visit to Brent and Grace Seufert at BGD Ranch in Calgary, Alberta (At Boisin) to see the Akhal-Tekes and of course those cute Caspians!! The Akhal-Tekes were so cute and fuzzy (except for the Californian who seems to be taking the cold in stride!) (function($){$(document).ready(function(){$(“#px15 a”).lightBox({});});})(jQuery); The Caspians were the kid’s favourites and [...]
***** NOTE: this post is still in progress, I’ll update as I learn more !!!!!!***** Potential inbreeding problems with Akhal-Tekes was brought up on the Yahoo list and got me curious to find out more. As Akhal-Tekes are still on the rare side, especially outside of Russia and Turkmenistan, one thing to watch with breeding [...]
Here is what I have found as results so far and I will continue updating as I find the information and links. The European Akhal-Teke Championships took place at Gut Ising, Germany. The honourable judges included Tatyana Ryabova (Russia), Khamal Mirkhodzhaev (Uzbekistan) and Wolfgang Kühn (Germany). Ninety horses participated in this event. Supreme Champion: Gagar [...]
The Festival of Endangered Equines was put on by by Equus Survival Trust and the Akhal-Teke Society of America ran the US Akhal-Teke Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park. Here are some photos and once I get all the information I’ll put up a post about placings with more information: (function($){$(document).ready(function(){$(“#px8 a”).lightBox({});});})(jQuery); I have over [...]
BGD Ranch near Calgary is standing Dazyrdi, by Gindarkh 13 line Gelishikli. They also have a young bay mare, Dazzle, and a part-bred palomino gelding, Banjo Boogie (ATxArabian).
I was hoping to get some great shots of the Tekes but they are still not shed out!! It was a long cold winter for them up north but they are getting back into shape now. Akpay and Darginka are pregnant and we are waiting to see if Pagoda is as well.
The Seuferts have the most beautiful herd of Caspians. These little horses, standing around 11-12 hh, are very sweet and gentle.

You can read the article I wrote for Saddle Up here and see it’s layout on the Akhal-Teke Canada site as well.
Akhal-Tekes seem to have the most amazing movement. Here are some YouTube videos of Akhal-Tekes doing dressage, including two historical videos, one with Absent footage, and clips of Grom and Lakmus. Please comment if you know the other horses!
Off to the track on a nice Sunday afternoon…
I’m trying to get sport information on Akhal-Tekes who are currently being campaigned in jumping. These are the horses I could find, if you have more information on these horses or others can you please let me know!!
Here are some of my favourite horses (for different reasons) from photos I can find. I want to learn more about conformation and think about what draws me to these photos. In general what is good conformation? Which is the fastest, the best for endurance, the best jumper, the best for dressage? And also, how much are body types affected by training (type/or lack of)?
I’m going crazy not being near my horses so I have to be happy just looking at photos! Here is a collection of Akhal-Teke photography that I like from Flickr:
We were honoured to visit two amazing Akhal-Teke breeders, Milena Stoszek and Cathy Leddy, unfortunately too quickly…
We had a great time watching the eventing at the Maple Ridge Equi-Sports Center!
This post is my comment to Jessica Eile Keith’s statement on the ShaEl Teke website:
I am looking for my old equine massage therapy page to put up again (I really need to start working, lol!!) and I found photos from my old site when I had Abu Dhan and Delight. I couldn’t resist posting them!
